We planted Obsidian Ridge in 1999 on an old abandoned walnut orchard in the high Mayacamas Mountains at elevation 2,640' in a county not known for its Bordeaux varietals and in an appellation that did not yet exist. In 2002 we made the smallest of lots: 98 cases, to see what we could bring forth. The rest, as they say, is history. Our classic Obsidian Ridge Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is available at fine wine restaurants and bottle shops throughout the country, and the Obsidian Ridge Estate Syrah is available only through our Wine Club or at the Tasting Room.
Obsidian Ridge slopes from elevation 2,640 feet down to 2,300 feet in the course of several hundred yards. On the steepest of the nearly 20 degree slopes we often find the finest fruit, from D and E Block. From these blocks we made an full flavored and ageworthy offering: Obsidian Ridge "The Slope", a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, is available only through our Wine Club or at the Tasting Room.
By 2007, after having farmed Obsidian Ridge for nearly a decade, it was clear to us that we had a very special vineyard on our hands. We experimented by making the smallest of lots from the finest fruit that they vineyard could muster: a blend that could stand the test of time. Made only in the worthy years. Obsidian Ridge "Half Mile" Proprietary Red Blend is an allocated wine, available through our Wine Club or at the Tasting Room.
